Forbes named WEX to America’s Best Employers for Company Culture 2026. The global leader in intelligent payment solutions earned a major workplace honor. The business is based in Portland, Maine. WEX ranked No. 78 overall on the national list. Furthermore, the company secured the top placement among employers headquartered in Maine.
The prestigious national list recognizes 600 U.S. companies. Researchers developed the list through an independent survey. Over 217,000 U.S.-based employees participated in the survey. These individuals work at organizations with at least 1,000 employees. People familiar with the industry also provided broader evaluations.
Workplace Diversity and Advanced AI Growth
WEX drives employee connection through resource groups. The business grew from one group to 10 since 2019. Additionally, WEX supports an AI Accelerators community of over 1,000 employees. An internal survey shows 60% of WEX employees use AI daily. Meanwhile, only 31% of national tech sector employees use AI daily. Nearly 90% of workers say WEX culture supports this learning.
“Our people are the reason WEX has earned this recognition, and we believe they are our competitive advantage for the company. As WEX has grown, what has remained constant is the care, curiosity, and ownership WEXers bring to their work. Culture is how strategy becomes execution. It helps us serve customers better, operate with discipline, and continue building a company that can create lasting value for shareholders,” said Melissa Smith, chief executive officer and president of WEX.
WEX offers benefits on the first day of employment. These programs include adoption, fertility, and tuition reimbursement. The firm provides family care for children, seniors, and pets. Employees also access mental health and weight loss programs.
The business promotes a core value called Be a Positive Force. WEX grants annual paid volunteer time to employees. Workers logged nearly 1,800 volunteer hours across 14 countries during April 2026.
“When employees feel supported, connected, and equipped to grow, customers feel the difference. A strong culture helps us attract and retain talent, move with speed and accountability, and bring better ideas to customers. This recognition reflects the workplace we are continuing to build, one where people can do meaningful work, learn together, and help WEX deliver for all of its stakeholders,” said Sandy Kuohn, chief people officer at WEX.
