Nearly 70% of Frontline Workers Feel Replaceable Despite Pride in Work

Frontline Workers

Frontline workers show strong pride in their jobs, yet many feel replaceable and overlooked. A Fountain survey highlights these concerns across the U.S. workforce. The Propeller Insights survey covered 1,014 U.S. frontline workers in June 2026. Fountain commissioned the survey to examine frontline workforce experiences.

The results indicate that 77% of workers feel proud talking about their jobs. In addition, 68% feel that management seeks their views regularly or occasionally. Moreover, 63% of workers feel respected by the customers they serve. Nevertheless, workers feel that their efforts are not recognized by others.

For instance, 47% perceive that frontline workers do not get enough recognition despite their economic value. In addition, 56% believe that most people overlook the level of stress associated with the jobs. Further, 69% consider themselves to be easily replaceable in their respective positions. It is apparent from the results that the organization has a devoted workforce that is consistently battling various workplace frustrations. Time and control emerge as some of the main areas of workplace frustration for the frontline workers. Lack of a consistent schedule is the most common frustration for many workers.

“So much of feeling valued at work comes down to control over your own time,” said Tanya Carlson, senior vice president of customer success at Fountain. “When the hiring process bends to the worker’s schedule instead of the other way around, that isn’t just convenient; it’s a form of respect. Technology finally makes that possible at scale, and workers can feel the difference.”

Frontline Workers Face Workplace Challenges

Yet another 30% state that they have little control over the timing and conditions under which they work. Hence, such issues impact the perceptions of workers about the future of their profession. One out of every four workers is feeling pessimistic about the future of frontline jobs in the USA.

Optimism among front-line employees about technological advancements at work is also apparent. For instance, 45% of the respondents have reported that technology has already made their workdays much easier for them. Employees tend to become more receptive to the use of AI when it enables them to have greater control over it.

Fountain resolves these problems by using its mobile workforce platform. The platform enables candidates to apply, schedule, and onboard using their smartphones. As a consequence, employees have the flexibility to go through the entire process of hiring based on their own convenience.
