Arup Names Urban Development and Infrastructure Leader Jee Mee Kim-Diaz to Drive Eastern U.S. Impact

Arup has appointed Jee Mee Kim-Diaz as Americas East Geography Leader to advance Urban Development across the Eastern United States.

Jee Mee Kim-Diaz boasts almost 30 years’ experience in urban development and infrastructure projects. She has been working with both the public and the private sectors in her professional career. Kim-Diaz, based in New York, will oversee more than 600 Arup employees across five offices in the Eastern U.S.

These encompass client leadership, market development, and talent strategy within the Eastern region. This is one of the biggest business units at Arup and its fastest growing regions. Kim-Diaz joins Arup from Arcadis, where she worked as the New York City metro area city executive. She has experience with many projects in New York and other cities in the U.S. Her portfolio includes transport, civic infrastructure, healthcare, and mixed-use developments. Notable projects include the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Program and the Fifth Avenue program.

Kim-Diaz Brings Extensive Urban Development Experience

In her role, she was able to spearhead several initiatives that were part of the commitments made by the city. These initiatives include bikeways measuring 30 miles and bus lanes covering 28 miles. She was also responsible for initiating Open Streets and new Freight Management Strategy with the Blue Highways pilot project. Some of the key challenges she raised include infrastructure aging, transit accessibility, climate change, affordability, and decarbonization. She also praised the technical abilities and the purpose of Arup.

In her capacity, she was able to drive several significant initiatives that were commitments from the city. They include 30 miles of bikeways and 28 miles of bus lanes. She was also behind Open Streets and new Freight Management Strategy which included the Blue Highways pilot project. Some of the main issues she identified were aging infrastructure, transit access, climate change, affordability, and decarbonization. She also applauded the technical prowess and purpose of Arup.

Kim-Diaz continues to be involved in civic activities in New York as well as throughout the larger region. She is a board member at the Regional Plan Association and Urban Design Forum. In addition, she is part of the Urban Land Institute New York. The projects she works on include those involving transport, real estate, economic development, and funding for infrastructure projects. As the newly appointed project manager, Jee Mee Kim-Diaz will be working with the clients from all these industries.
