MetLife Study Finds AI Acceleration Is Creating New Concerns in Today’s Workplace

The AI workplace concerns are increasing in relation to the growth of artificial intelligence in the workplace. MetLife’s latest research indicates that the workforce is balancing optimism and increasing uncertainty about AI. Although AI increases efficiency in the workplace, employees have concerns about the overall impact of artificial intelligence. According to MetLife’s latest 2026 Employee Benefit Trends Study, AI is an integral part of daily operations in the workplace. About 80% of employers use AI tools in their daily operations.

Furthermore, about 83% have experienced increased speed and productivity due to AI. Nevertheless, AI workplace concerns are increasing in relation to employees. The research indicates that about 61% of employees have concerns about the ethical and safety risks of AI in the workplace. On the other hand, about 59% are concerned about the possibility of job or skill obsolescence. Moreover, about 24% feel pressured to compete with AI tools.

“As AI is rapidly becoming a more significant part of everyday work, many employers are still working through what the integration means for employees and the future of their organizations,” said Shurawl Sibblies, Chief Human Resources Officer at MetLife. “As technology reshapes how work gets done and how performance is measured, providing clarity around expectations and development is critical to driving the best outcomes for employees and businesses.”

Employers have recognized increasing workplace tension. About 67% have noted increasing mistrust between their workforce and leaders. Furthermore, 54% face challenges in addressing changing workforce needs. Thus, workplace AI concerns have created changes in workplace dynamics. Finally, the study points out increasing pressure on employee well-being. Workers experience financial pressure and changes in their workplace. Therefore, benefits and skills have become essential needs. The ‘Success Reset’ concept emphasizes human skills, connection, and benefits. This concept is essential in helping companies deal with change confidently.

“Employers are being pushed to rethink what employees need to thrive in an AI-enabled workplace,” said Todd Katz, EVP, Head of Group Benefits at MetLife. “Supportive benefits play a critical role in helping people manage change, build resilience and stay healthy while skill development ensures employees can continue to grow and succeed alongside new technology.”
