PlanSource has launched its AI Benefits Agent to simplify benefits administration and help employees complete essential tasks. The new solution provides personalized guidance, supports benefits-related actions, and advances the company’s vision for autonomous benefits administration.
In the last two years, PlanSource has created technology that would help it lower administrative overhead. This includes the use of an anomaly detection engine and Delivery Hub. The company is now looking into making use of AI for employees.
“For too long, benefits technology has given employees more places to search without making benefits meaningfully easier to manage,” said Eddie Pinto, SVP of Product at PlanSource. “Most AI solutions stop at answering questions. We believe the future is helping employees understand what matters, take the next step, and get things done.”
Moving Beyond Answers to Practical Actions
Employees often need benefits support during major life events, including marriage, childbirth, coverage changes, and ongoing healthcare needs. However, understanding plan documents, eligibility rules, and support channels can make these situations more complicated.
The PlanSource Benefits Agent is an application that simplifies this process. It differs from traditional chatbots since the application is able to use the information about the employees’ coverages, eligibility, households, and benefits programs.
“Benefits Agent is like having a benefits expert in your pocket,” said Pinto. “One who knows your coverage, your family, and what you’d otherwise miss.” Take the moment a new baby arrives. An employee opens their phone and says, “We just had a baby.” Benefits Agent doesn’t just add the baby to coverage. It keeps going, recommending and completing other important actions that person may not have even considered: uploading their verification documents, increasing an HSA contribution, adding the baby as a beneficiary, enrolling in a dependent care spending account, and identifying programs that help them care for their family.
For instance, an employee expecting to bring home a new baby could be offered help other than just adding that new addition to the existing insurance coverage. The insurance agent could offer information on such things as documentation, contributions to the HSA, beneficiaries, and dependent care FSA. As a result, employees can manage important benefits decisions with less effort during major life changes.
Advancing Autonomous Benefits Administration
Benefits Agent represents another step in PlanSource’s development of autonomous benefits administration. The company aims to reduce manual work while keeping people involved in important decisions.
PlanSource is employing ambient and agentic AI to observe, find problems, coordinate specialists, and act, all within certain boundaries. Meanwhile, the human expert controls the situation where judgment calls are needed.
This methodology will assist in solving routine problems more quickly for the HR department. This way, they will be able to focus more on their employees and strategic matters. This could also mean that less time will be spent on system management by brokers, resellers, partners, and services.
Greg Mercer, Chief Growth & Operations Officer at PlanSource, outlined the company’s objective.
“Our goal is simple,” said Greg Mercer, Chief Growth & Operations Officer at PlanSource. “We want to take more of the administration out of benefits administration. Benefits Agent is one more step in a journey already underway, and an important glimpse at what we believe comes next for the industry.”
Through this launch, PlanSource continues to develop AI-driven benefits technology focused on simpler processes, personalized employee support, & more efficient administration.
