A new survey by D2L reveals that a majority of U.S. employees are optimistic about artificial intelligence, viewing it as a tool that can enhance their productivity and free up time for more strategic work. According to the findings, 69% of respondents believe AI will improve their performance, while 68% expect it to reduce time spent on repetitive tasks.

Workers acknowledge AI’s capabilities in handling routine, data-heavy activities like summarizing reports (52%), analyzing data (46%), and conducting research (43%). John Baker, President and CEO of D2L, noted that employees value AI for automating low-level tasks, allowing them to focus on creativity, problem-solving, and communication—skills they believe AI cannot replicate.

Despite broader concerns about AI-driven job losses, only 33% of U.S. workers expressed fears of being replaced by AI. This confidence likely stems from the belief that AI serves best as a support tool rather than a replacement.

However, the report also highlights a gap in employer support. Nearly 6 in 10 employees say they’ve been left to navigate AI learning alone, and only a quarter report that their organization has a clear AI strategy in place.

Baker emphasized the need for companies to define a structured AI vision and invest in training to help employees adapt. The report recommends developing ethical guidelines for AI use, creating detailed training modules, and using AI-powered platforms to personalize learning experiences.

“With the right training and tools, employees can better integrate AI into their roles and unlock its full potential,” Baker added.
