Wisq, a pioneer in Agentic HR and creator of the world’s first AI HR Generalist, has secured $15 million in new funding. The investment, led by Norwest Venture Partners, Shasta Ventures, and True Ventures, will accelerate Wisq’s mission to redefine HR through an AI-first, human-centered approach.
At the core of this advancement is the debut of HRLM, a large language model built specifically for Agentic HR. Unlike generic AI tools, HRLM handles enterprise-grade tasks such as policy interpretation, risk assessment, and employee relations — all with high compliance and speed.
HRLM serves as the foundation for Harper, Wisq’s AI-powered HR Generalist. It delivers accurate, cost-effective support for complex HR functions, allowing teams to work more efficiently without compromising on detail or ethics.
“AI in HR must act like a colleague, not just a chatbot,” said Jim Barnett, CEO and Co-Founder of Wisq. “We created HRLM to serve the unique demands of Agentic HR — work that can’t be handled by general-purpose models.”
In tandem with HRLM’s release, Wisq introduced Hurdle, the first benchmark to test AI performance in HR-specific tasks like feedback delivery and policy enforcement. HRLM matched top reasoning models like OpenAI’s o3 in accuracy, while also offering faster processing at lower cost.
The company emphasizes that true innovation in HR comes when AI elevates — not replaces — human expertise. Wisq’s Agentic HR strategy integrates AI into the HR workflow as a trusted partner, not just an assistant.
“Agentic HR is about empowering people with AI that understands their role,” Barnett added. “We’re building the team, platform, and model to make that vision real.”
The new money will be used for additional AI research and expansion of the team, with an emphasis on engineering and go-to-market development. The success of Wisq heralds a resounding change: the future of human resources is technology that thinks, reasons, and acts in collaboration — all with people at the forefront.
