Workforce Shifts as Employees Prefer AI Managers
A new report from CalypsoAI highlights a major workplace shift as AI adoption accelerates. The survey reveals growing trust in artificial intelligence at work.
According to the findings, 45% of employees trust AI more than their colleagues. Moreover, 38% said they would rather report to an AI manager than a human supervisor. Additionally, 34% admitted they would quit if their employer restricted AI use.
The survey included 1,000 U.S. office workers. Results show 87% of employers already enforce an AI policy. However, 52% of respondents said they would still break these rules if AI helped them complete tasks faster. Alarmingly, 28% used AI to access sensitive company data, while another 28% submitted proprietary data into AI systems.
“These results serve as a clear warning,” said Donnchadh Casey, CEO of CalypsoAI. “Executives push AI adoption without assessing risks, while employees use it unsupervised. Misuse of AI is not a distant risk—it’s already occurring in enterprises today.”
Among executives, 50% prefer AI managers over human leaders. At the same time, 34% admitted they cannot always distinguish between an AI system and a human employee, while 38% said they are unfamiliar with the term AI agent.
Entry-level workers show similar trends. Around 37% said they would not feel guilty about breaking company AI policies. Furthermore, 21% claimed their company’s AI rules remain unclear, so they “just do what works.”
Trust levels also vary by industry. About 58% of security professionals reported more confidence in AI than their peers. In contrast, 27% of healthcare workers said they would rather report to AI than to a human manager.
Generational differences also emerged. Half of Generation Z employees said they consider ChatGPT a colleague or even a friend. Nearly half prefer consulting ChatGPT over asking their boss. A Resume.org report confirms that workers now rely on AI for decisions, guidance, and even mental health support.
