TrueBlue’s PeopleScout Research Reveals AI Is Changing Hiring, but Communication Gaps Affect Candidate Experience

PeopleScout

PeopleScout research shows that AI hiring is changing recruitment, while communication gaps continue affecting the candidate experience. The study highlights growing AI adoption among job seekers.

TrueBlue revealed findings from its PeopleScout line of business. The survey discusses the impact of AI on recruiting. The report is titled “Inside the Candidate Experience: AI is Changing Recruiting. Communication is Still the Missing Piece.” The survey was conducted on more than 1,000 job candidates.

The sample comprised 10 international markets. The Candidate Experience Index was also utilized by PeopleScout to measure the employer’s hiring process. The study revealed that 52% of job applicants made use of AI while searching for jobs. Job applicants mostly made use of AI for CVs, cover letters, research, and interview preparation.

“Hiring is still a human relationship, and this research is a reminder that candidates remember how they were treated far more than how fast the process moved,” said Taryn Owen, President and CEO of TrueBlue. “We’re focused on pairing AI-enabled tools with clear communication at every step of the hiring journey, because that combination not technology alone is what advances our mission to connect people and work.”

Communication Gaps Continue During Hiring

But the communication skill continues to be a big issue during the hiring process. Around 64% of job applicants did not hear back from employers. In addition to that, nine out of ten candidates faced ghosting during their job hunt. This means that quick hiring processes do not guarantee good experiences for candidates. Another thing to worry about is transparency. Approximately 65% of candidates did not know about employers’ use of AI during hiring.

On the other hand, just 25% felt extremely confident that a person was involved in reviewing their application. Time management, fairness, and transparency were listed among the top criteria as well. Respect for candidates’ time rated 4.36 out of five. Transparency rated 4.28, and fair assessment scored 4.27.

“We use AI-supported technology to help our clients hire with greater speed and consistency,” said Rick Betori, President of PeopleScout. “But this research confirms what we tell every client: technology is necessary, but it isn’t the only piece of the hiring strategy. Organizations that successfully pair these tools with transparency, communication, review and oversight, and human connection are the ones that build lasting candidate trust and that combination is exactly what PeopleScout delivers.”

According to Betori, technology should be coupled with transparency and connection. This will help companies establish enduring trust among candidates. The research further indicates a direct relationship between the candidate experience and brand perception. For instance, 37 percent of those who had a negative experience would advise other candidates not to join such companies. On the other hand, 36 percent would stop buying from the organization. Furthermore, 34 percent would boycott the company.

As such, employers get the chance of integrating technology with improved human interaction. Improved levels of communication and feedback will improve the trust level of candidates. It is clear from the PeopleScout report that technology and human interaction need to go hand-in-hand.
