The company is implementing Sana across workplace AI solutions to help employees complete tasks without switching between applications. The announcement came at Workday Rising 2026. Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY) describes Sana as an agentic experience and orchestration engine. Employees can make requests in plain English, and Sana checks relevant policies, permissions, and approval requirements. It then coordinates the necessary agents to complete tasks.
An illustration of this is a business leader asking Sana via Microsoft Copilot for modeling of a planning decision. Sana validates permission, models options by comparing with company information, and saves the selected plan in Workday. In case there is need for approval of any matter, Sana ensures that all the required context is gathered and a proper recommendation is made to the management. Hence, employees will not have to create unnecessary tickets and follow-up calls.
“People shouldn’t have to leave a conversation to access HR or finance domain AI agents, or to get the work done,” said Joel Hellermark, chief AI officer, Workday. “Wherever that conversation happens, Sana brings the same understanding of a company’s people, money, and rules that it has inside Workday, and the same team of agents to act on it.”
Sana Applies Company Rules Before Acting
Sana does more than connect multiple platforms. Third-party AI tools access company data through Sana rather than directly accessing raw data. Meanwhile, Sana applies corporate permissions, policies, and approval requirements before executing actions. The company introduced self-service features in these third-party tools earlier this year. Now, the experience goes beyond answering questions and helps employees complete tasks.
For example, Sana can coordinate the necessary agents without requiring employees to identify individual tools. Additionally, it can proactively identify certain issues. After an employee’s business trip, Sana can flag an unreported expense in Claude. It then applies company policy and prepares an expense report for approval.
One Connection for Invoking Workday Agents Within Workplace Tools
Customers can create a single connection to access agents through their supported workplace tools. These agents may come from the platform provider, customers, or partners. Additionally, new capabilities can become available across connected tools without requiring employees to learn another system. All policy checks and approvals remain in the central platform, allowing businesses to maintain their existing controls.
Sana Facilitates Complicated Work Process
Some examples of process activities include open enrollment, performance appraisal, quarterly close process, and workforce planning. They often entail several tasks and decisions. To enable this type of process activities, Sana provides a central place where employees and managers can monitor the progress of work and continue where they left off. Work can start in one tool and shift into Sana where needed before returning to employees’ workflows.
